Lost In Music

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

I have found myself listening to a lot of music recently, being inspired by different Iyrics, remembering past events and the people I shared those moments with.

We all do it, a song comes on and reminds of our past, a new one plays just at the right time to fit our mood, we suddenly find ourselves randomly #singing and #dancing. sad songs after #heartache one's that push us forward and remind us of who we are.

When it comes to my sister, music by Five cheesy pop songs, and there's The Phantom of the Opera where we used duet, and for some weird reason I was always Christine! Then anything by Lemar who became famous on the #BBC Fame Academy, so when I done an event with Naz Project with 360fizz a couple of years ago, I had to send her a selfie!

Music touches us emotionally, where words cannot. literature of the heart!

When it comes to my parents' influence: it was Motown from my dad, My mum music from West End Shows.

Then Music from short-term romances (bit of theme in my life, commitment issues!)

Hot in Herre; Nelly, it was a time when I was running a pub in Basingstoke when this one girl just stood out, her and friends supported me from day one of opening the doors, they were amazing group of friends that are all still friends decades later, it was rare to see. We just clicked but it was always going to be short lived, it wasn't about forever just them moments we had, we were from different places on different journeys.

Sambuca: Wideboys, Dennis G, now this girl I admired from a far before our brief romance, she really could dance, this song seemed to come every time we were out and our eyes would lock on the dance floor, everywhere I went we just seemed to bump into each other even at Nottinghill Carnival!

I haven't mentioned their names as we are still friends and they have had amazing life's. I have a pleasure watching and be a part of their journey. Tropicana Beat: Wham, Jacob's mum took me to meet her uncle and aunt who owned a pub in Bridgewater, Summerset what can only be described as a biker's pub! Harley Davidsons, people in leather waist coats, long hair. So, I thought to her dismay it would be a good idea to put this song on the juke boxes whilst playing pool, that lead me to dance around the table. A different day but it was at this pub I found out that I was going to be a dad, that leads me to my next song.

Livin' la Vida Loca: Ricky Martin, All I need to say this was at top of the charts when Jacob was born.

Music with Friends

One More Time; Daft Punk, one of my best friends who I am still friends with after 30+ years! I remember Nick just gliding across the dance floor every time it came on, Being at Homelands #festival in the Bacardi tent where we just danced all night. I just remember this one more than all the others, and there was anything by Michael Jackson as Nick would know every routine!

Lots of songs by Sean Paul & Black Eyed Peas, I used to live with two girls who loved the Champaine lifestyle, and we were out every night, these were type of girls that people would talk to me just to get introduced, they loved to dance, and we would just get lost on the dance floor, We also went to watch Top of The Pops get recorded four times but the time that stands out the most for me was in the summer when Black Eyed Peas performed three track and then one for Christmas! With one there was a lot of sexual chemistry, but we knew what our friendship was, we knew everything about each other, knew our boundaries at times did get borderline, but we kept them, it's amazing to have such a pure, close, honest friendship with them both and something I will always cherish.

Cold Heart: Elton John & Dup Lipa. This one just makes me smile when I was visiting my sister it came on in the car, and she says, "sometimes you just don't need to redo songs!" then driving through London with a #friend yet again it came on the radio, but this friend just says, "what a tune" the difference between these two just makes me #smile.

Well, here are two that have stood out this year. There are two songs that have stood out to me one more recently and the other from the beginning of the year. It's not the whole verse that stands out, so the lyrics in bold are the lyrics that are working for me.

These Days: Rudimental, I know you moved onto someone new

Hope life is beautiful

You were the light for me to find my truth

I just wanna say, thank you

How You Remind Me: Nickelback

Never made it as a wise man I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing Tired of living like a blind man I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling

And this is how you remind me This is how you remind me Of what I really am This is how you remind me Of what I really am
